1962 – 2015

FARMINGTON — Lisa Robertson Galgay, 53, of Turner, died on May 19, following a long illness, at the Sandy River Center in Farmington, where she had been a patient for the past three years.

She was born on March 25, 1962, in North Attleboro, Mass., the daughter of John and Judith (Erickson) Robertson. In her early years, she attended schools in North Attleboro, Mass., and was a graduate of Mt. Blue High School Class of 1980.

Lisa married Chris Galgay on June 27, 1994, in Norway, and they had made their home in Turner for the past 15 years. In 1984, she received a B.S. degree in Elementary Education at UMF, and in 1998, a Master’s degree in Literacy at the University of Maine. In 2005, Lisa became a National Board Certified Teacher. In the following years, she mentored many other teachers through this difficult process. Lisa taught school for 26 years at the Hartford/Sumner Elementary School in Sumner, and her passion was teaching children to read.

She was very active in her local, state, and national education associations, the National Education Association and the Maine Educational Association. She really enjoyed watching her children play sports. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Sandy River Center for the loving care they gave Lisa while she was a resident there.

To honor Lisa’s memory, those wishing may donate a children’s book to the Lisa Galgay Book Room at the Hartford/Sumner Elementary School, 145 Main Street, Sumner, ME 04292.

She is survived by her husband, Chris Galgay of Turner; her daughter, Heidi Swett of Biddeford; her stepson, Kevin Galgay of Naples; her mother, Judith Robertson of Glendale, Ariz. and Greene; her three sisters, Shelly Robertson of Oakland, Holly Robertson of Wilton, Johanna Hrovat of Glendale, Ariz.; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her father, John Robertson.
