OXFORD — Selectmen on Thursday evening unanimously voted to sign a contract with MBP Consulting of Portland to repair the Welchville Dam for $8,000.

According to a report issued to the town in January, the dam on the Little Androscoggin River in Welchville village had planking, structural timbers and rock fill falling away. Erosion has caused the center of the dam to sag over a foot in the past two decades.

The company wants to either encapsulate the damaged spillway with concrete or remove part of it and insert a new concrete structure. Construction will not affect water levels, according to the letter.

A downstream apron will be installed to protect against erosion and moving debris.

Built around 1860, the dam is near the site of a wastewater treatment facility under construction. The dam has been repaired by the town numerous times, most recently in 2010.

The work is expected to be completed around September, according to the company.
