BETHEL — The 20th annual Bethel Library plant sale will take place from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday, May 30, rain or shine, on the library lawn at 5 Broad St.

All the plants are donated by local gardeners and are dug up and potted by gardeners or library volunteers in the weeks prior to the sale.

Plants available this year include (but are not limited to) lilies, irises, lilacs, ground covers (vinca, hosta, myrtle) and herbs. Most of the plants are perennials, but other plants are usually included in the sale. Last year, nonperennials included tomatoes, herbs (basil, sage, and oregano), and a few Christmas cacti.

Volunteers mark the plants with their name and under which conditions they will thrive.

The sale starts at 9 a.m. Between 9:15 and 9:30 a.m., door prizes of gardening gifts will be given out.

Donations of plants are accepted until the night before the sale. Those who need pots or markers or need plants picked up should call the library at 824-2520 or Susan Day at 824-2741 or Susan Parker at 824-4767.
