1935 – 2015
PARRISH, Fla. — Robert C. Poor, 79, of Parrish, Fla., formerly of Norway and Lynn, Mass., passed away Saturday, May 16, peacefully at his home, after a courageous battle with colon cancer.
Born in Lynn, Mass., on Nov. 6 1935, he was the son of Gladys Roche and George L. C. Poor. “Bibbie” graduated from Lynn English High School in 1953 and attended the University of Richmond on a football scholarship.
He raised his children in Lynn before moving to Norway. He worked for 22 years for the Oxford Hills School District and moved to Parrish, Fla., after retirement.
Bob enjoyed golf, Texas hold ‘em, and horseracing, and was an avid Red Sox fan.
He is survived by his life partner of 45 years, Joan Slavkin, whom he tirelessly cared for the past few years during her journey with Alzheimer’s disease; three brothers, Richard and wife, Dorothy, Roger and wife, Claudette, and George “Chuckie” Poor; five children, Susan, Christopher, and his fiancée, Susan Russell, Roberta, Patricia Shamsuddin and her husband, Nazir, Annie Cameron and her husband, David; six grandchildren, Emily Shamsuddin Mehta, Kate Shamsuddin, Rachel Poor Matthews, Cody Poor, Lily and Jack Cameron; three great-grandchildren, Addison and Beatrix Matthews, and Luxmi Mehta; and many nieces and nephews.
