READFIELD — State Police say they charged a Wayne man with impersonating a police officer and having a concealed weapon at the Kents Hill School campus Tuesday.
Troopers arrested Caleb Jackson, 19, of Wayne and charged him with impersonating a public servant, carrying a concealed weapon and possessing a gun on school property, according to a news statement by Stephen McCausland, Maine Department of Public Safety spokesman.
Jackson, a former Maranacook High School student, approached the Maranacook boy’s lacrosse coach while the team practiced at the Kents Hill campus — where the team plays its games. Jackson showed a badge and a gun, told the coach he was a State Police trooper and said he wanted to talk to the team about sexting, according to the statement.
He was allowed to talk to the team. After the meeting, school officials called State Police. Trooper Jed Malcore responded and found Jackson still on the Kents Hill campus. Malcore took Jackson into custody without incident.
Jackson was taken to the Kennebec County Jail and released on bail.
Jackson had a holstered gun on his belt, hidden under a coat, according to the statement. It was not removed from the holster at anytime. There also was no indication that he threatened anyone.
Troopers said the gun was loaded when they recovered it from Jackson’s car.
