BETHEL — The Bethel Historical Society will open its doors to those attending the Bethel Moose Festival from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 13. The Robinson House first floor and Mason House exhibit hall will be open free to the public.

At the Robinson House, two exhibits will be on view: “In the Field & On the Homefront: Bethel During the Civil War” and “Gould Through the Years: Selections from the Academy Archives.”

The museum shop will also be open all day, featuring items inspired by the society’s museum and research library collections, as well as books, gifts and special publications associated with past and current exhibits.

On the front lawn of the Robinson House, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Maine author and Lewiston resident James Witherell will sign copies of his books, “L. L. Bean — The Man and His Company: The Complete Story” and “Ed Muskie: Made in Maine, 1914-1960.” Both books will be available that day.

Next door at the Mason House, the “Moose Doodles Elementary Art Show” will be on display in the exhibit hall on the first floor of the 1813 barn, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

In addition, Dr. Mason’s famous “moose antler chair” and “moose antler hat rack” will be on display. Both artifacts were constructed by the doctor from antlers obtained from famous 19th century Abenaki guide Metalluk. Other activities will take place on and around the society’s grounds.
