RUMFORD — Rumford Hospital volunteers attended a special recognition luncheon held in their honor on May 18 at the hospital.

Volunteers are recognized annually for thousands of hours of volunteer service as patient visitors, lobby hosts, book cart circulators, children’s tour guides and other areas.

This year volunteers from the hospital side, auxiliary and Caring Stitcher’s programs were honored. In total, volunteers have given 37,677 hours of service to the patients of Rumford Hospital.

The following volunteers are members of the Rumford Hospital Caring Stitcher’s Program. These volunteers donated 379 afghans, blankets and infant sweaters to hospital patients last year, which totals 7,580 hours of service:

Nine Rumford Hospital Volunteers were also honored by the Maine Commission for Community Service Roll of Honor for giving 500 or more hours of service last year. Each recipient will receive a certificate of recognition signed by Gov. Paul LePage as part of the Governor’s Award for Service & Volunteerism.
