1943 – 2015

YARMOUTH — Charles Phillip Roux, 72, of Yarmouth, died Friday June 5, at Mercy Hospital in Portland.

He was born in Portland on Feb. 7, 1943, the oldest of three sons of Janice (Simmons) and C. Charles Roux. Charlie graduated from Cape Elizabeth High School, where he played on the basketball team. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and was sent to Yale University to become a linguist and was then stationed in Taiwan.

Charlie met the love his life, Nancy Curtis, on a blind date while on leave. Unbeknownst to Charlie, his father proposed to Nancy on one knee and with a ring in hand, on his behalf. Nancy later called Charlie to inform him they were engaged. (Sometimes, parents do know best for their children.) They would have celebrated 48 years on June 17.

Charlie’s entire career was in banking. He started with Sun Savings in Portland and 33 years later, retired as an executive vice president with TD Bank. He enjoyed reading, especially about Civil War history, golf and hunting. He, along with few friends, owned a special camp they named “Seldom Inn” in Kingsbury. He was a member of the Lions Club, an ATV club in Bingham and was a longtime member of the Construction Golf League.

Charlie will be remembered for being a wonderful father and grandfather, who readily shared with those in need, be it learning to play golf or being the go-to guy for someone to listen and give a bit of wisdom, he was always ready to help and always with a smile on his face. His family and the friendships he made were a big part of who he was.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy Roux of Yarmouth; his son, Charles Roux and his wife, Stephanie, and their daughter, Abigail, of Auburn; his daughter, Danielle Pare and her husband, Raymond, and their children, Kathryn and Braden, of North Yarmouth; his son, Christian Roux and his wife, Katelyn, and their daughter, Lilah, of Falmouth; his brother, Paul D. Roux and his wife, Susan, of Yarmouth; his brother, Thomas Roux and his wife, Deborah, of Yarmouth; as well as seven nieces and nephews.
