1941 – 2015

LEWISTON — Emma Louise Jackson, 74, of Lewiston, passed away early Monday morning, June 8, at her home following a battle with cancer. Her family was with her.

She was born in East Point, Ga., on March 14, 1941, the oldest child of Leroy and Daisy Pearl Tillman. She was educated in Georgia and Maine schools. In the fall of 1957, her aunt, Louvenia Williams, traveled to Georgia and while there, asked Emma to return to Maine with her. Isaac Jackson was on that trip, and once they returned to Maine, they became a couple. Soon after, they were married.

She worked as a certified nursing assistant and a med tech at several health care facilities in the area, starting in the late 1960s to the early 2000s: High Street Nursing Home, Auburn; Pineland Hospital, Pownal; Promenade Nursing Home, Auburn; Bolster Heights Nursing Home, Auburn; and Grandview Nursing Home, Auburn.

Isaac became a pastor and Emma became a missionary. Together, with the help and support of many, they started the Church of God in Christ in Auburn. This was a huge accomplishment for the two of them and Central Maine.

Emma loved service; she served on the board of the Church of God in Christ, and in 2004, was appointed hospitality president. She was a woman of faith.
