OXFORD — Residents elected outgoing Fire Chief Scott Hunter and Peter Laverdiere to three-year terms as selectmen in a close race at the polls Tuesday.
Laverdiere received 223 and Hunter, 221. Board Chairman Floyd Thayer received 205 and Joan Quinn received 147.
“I’m pleased to lead the vote in the town of Oxford,” Laverdiere said late Tuesday evening.
Hunter, whose last day as fire chief was Tuesday, unseated Thayer, who has served for years. Reached by phone after the results were released, Hunter said he was pleased.
“I think the town can get things done a lot better if we laid a plan out on what we need to do, whether it’s economic development, or the recreation department.”
Voters also elected Penelope Lowe as trustee to the Water Department, and six voters entered Henry Jackson as a write-in candidate for the SAD 17 director.
Residents also voted 245-113 to approve the SAD 17 budget.
