GRAY — The Maine Wildlife Park will host Donn Fendler, author of “Lost on a Mountain in Maine,” from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, June 20 on Route 26 in Gray. Fendler is famous for becoming lost for nearly two weeks on Mount Katahdin in July 1939, then writing the book based on his experience.

Fendler joined the US Navy in World War II as a Sea Bee, then graduated from Benedictine College. He returned to serve his country as an Infantry Airborne Officer in the U.S. Army, retiring after 30 years as a Lieutenant Colonel.

He now divides his time between Clarksville, Tenn., and Newport. Over the years, he has written countless letters answering questions about his experience on Mount Katahdin. He still gives talks at schools, libraries, to scout troops and others about his survival experience.

Donn will autograph his books, which will be available for purchase in the Nature Store; attendees can bring their own copies of the book if they wish. FMI: www.donnfendler.com.
