6/8/2015: At 2 a.m. early Monday morning Deputy Andrew Morgan stopped a vehicle for speeding on the Ridge Rd in Chesterville. During the stop he determined that the driver (and only occupant of the car), Dillian Burnham, 23, of Chesterville, may have been driving under the influence of alcohol.

Morgan conducted a field sobriety test which confirmed his suspicion. At that point Morgan attempted to take Burnham into custody when Burnham resisted arrest and escaped back into his vehicle (black 2002 Oldsmobile 2 door) and then fled the scene.

Morgan started to chase after Burnham who turned onto Norcross Hill road at a high rate of speed. Morgan lost sight of the vehicle at that point suspecting that Burnham had fled into the town of Fayette. At that point Morgan alerted State Police, Livermore Falls Police, Wilton and Jay Police to be on the lookout for the vehicle.

At 2:33 a.m. Livermore Falls Police Officer Vernon Stevens found the Burnham vehicle and attempted to stop it in town when the driver decided to continue to elude officers. At this point the driver fled through Jay up Jay Hill, onto the old Jay Hill Road, then the Woodman Hill road, onto Route 133 to North Jay, at which point the Livermore Falls officer broke off the pursuit but continued to look for the vehicle, which was eventually found crashed on the Borough Road in Chesterville.

The driver had to be extricated from his car by Chesterville Fire Department personnel. Once the driver was removed he was transported to FMH by Northstar for injuries he had received as a result of the accident. While at the hospital Deputy Morgan charged Burnham with six crimes:

The Burnham vehicle was traveling at what investigators believed to be a speed which was greater than reasonable and prudent for the conditions of the road thus losing control in the of the car as it drifted onto soft shoulder of the road, thus causing the vehicle to spin sideways and roll over several times. Investigators believe that neither occupant was wearing safety belts at the time which explained the seriousness of their injuries. They also believe that due to evidence at the scene and statements from witnesses and the driver, alcohol was also a factor in the crash.

Amanda Race was transported by life flight to CMMC because of her injuries. Detective Ken Charles and Deputy Kevin Hartley reconstructed the scene. Lieutenant David St. Laurent obtained a search warrant to search the vehicle for evidence alcohol. Charges are pending the results of a blood test.
