OLD TOWN – A public presentation on a draft Downtown Master Plan has been scheduled for Tuesday, June 30 at 6:30 p.m. at the library.

The city is in the midst of a Master Planning process focused on the downtown area, including site-specific conceptual planning at the former Old Town Canoe Factory property. Like many of Maine’s riverfrontcommunities with a long history of industrial mill activities, the city faces challenging times as the center of the community goes through a revitalization process.

Also like many of Maine’s downtowns, the City of Old Town has a distinct sense of community and wealth of assets which include historic buildings; proximity of the downtown to the riverfront; committed citizens and local businesses; quality-of-life attraction as a great place to live and work; and capacity of currently underutilized sites and buildings presenting opportunities for revitalization and redevelopment Additionally, the city’s young demographic and diversity of economic tax base contribute to the overall unique character of Old Town.

With the assistance of community’s input, the Master Planning effort seeks to develop a vision and adopt strategies and goals that are actionable and clearly supported by public consensus. The draft plan will be presented by the engineering and planning firm Wright-Pierce, which is assisting the city in this process and has facilitating the public participation process.
