FARMINGTON — A fireworks display will once again liven up the weekend activities for Independence Day in Farmington.

The display is planned for 9 p.m. Friday, July 3, over Prescott Field.

Prior to the show, the Farmington Fire Benevolent Association will host its annual chicken barbecue and bonfire. Dinners are limited and anyone interested in partaking should call 207-778-3235 as soon as possible.

Between the barbecue and the fireworks, there will be an Obstacle and Trail Run at 7 p.m. Registration is from 6 to 6:45 p.m. at the Snack Shack in Farmington. The registration fee includes T-shirts to the first 25 who register.

The course is mostly flat out and back, looping around the Farmington Village Corporation field, and featuring low-difficulty obstacles. The start and finish lines are at the Snack Shack. For more information, contact John Moore at mainecinemas@myfairpoint.net.

The fireworks are made possible by Franklin Savings Bank, the Farmington Fire Benevolent Association and Stone Hearth Café.

“This is a citizen-initiated event that is made possible by a dedicated all-volunteer staff,” John Moore, co-owner of the Stone Hearth Café, said.

“We are pleased to be able to help bring a little sparkle to our Independence Day weekend celebrations by bringing a fireworks show back to Farmington,” Peter Judkins, president and CEO of Franklin Savings Bank, said.

The show is free but spectators are urged to be respectful of property while viewing. While there is plenty of space adjacent to the fields for a lawn chair or blanket, viewers are asked to not stand or sit on the UMF playing fields.
