DEAR SUN SPOTS: The Norway High School Alumni Committee is holding its annual Alumni Banquet on Saturday, July 18. We would like to extend an invitation to anyone who ever attended Norway High School. In the 1960s, Norway High School merged into Oxford Hills SAD 17. Many of the anniversary classes (’55, ’60, ’65, ’70, ’75) are planning gatherings at the banquet. We have notified many alumni via email, U.S. Postal Service and word of mouth. DEAR SUN SPOTS: I read recently in the Sun Journal about the Farmington Police Department going around and checking on the elderly if asked. Do other police departments in Maine do that? It sounds like a great service. — Son of elderly mother, Lewiston.

ANSWER: You are referring to a press release published in the Sun Journal that stated the Farmington Police Department is participating in the Elder Check Program started by the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department. Any senior living alone in Farmington who feels they would benefit from a routine check by the Farmington Police Department is invited to contact Farmington PD. These visits can be scheduled for as often as any individual would like them.

The Farmington PD also participates in the Wanderers Program which aims to keep members of the community safe. It only takes a few moments to register a loved one who may be prone to wandering due to autism, Alzheimer’s, or dementia. Registration is simple and takes just a few minutes. The information provided is secure, private and provides a critical network of real time information, including a photograph, to law enforcement to assist in locating a loved one.
