AUBURN — A downed power line caught fire and knocked out power Tuesday to stores and traffic lights in the area of Mount Auburn Avenue, Turner Road and parts of Center Street, police said.
The problem was reported at about 10:30 a.m., Lt. Tim Cougle said.
The outage lasted more than an hour until Central Maine Power crews were able to fix the downed line at North River Road and restore power to the area.
Meanwhile, a backup battery unit at Kohl’s department store on Mount Auburn Avenue emitted an odor that caused the store to be evacuated.
