1934 – 2015

AUBURN — Hazel M. Libby, 80, a resident of Leeds, went to be with the love of her life, Roger, on Sunday, June 28, with her family by her side.

Hazel was born August 27, 1934, in Poland, the daughter of the late Benjamin “Benny” and Bertha Ames of Poland. She had two sisters and a brother, Madelyn Pulsifer, Myrtle Field and the late Raymond “Buddy” Ames of Poland. Hazel married Roger H. Libby on November 22, 1958. She and Roger lived in Poland where Hazel was a homemaker and they raised a son, James of Leeds.

She loved flowers and was always seen working in her many flower gardens she had on Hardscrabble Road. She also loved to cook and can vegetables from her gardens. Hazel and Roger enjoyed life together and enjoyed the outdoors, traveling, camping, fishing, square dancing, dining out and their pets. After Roger’s retirement they wintered in Alabama. In 2001, shortly after the loss of her husband, she resided with her son and his wife, Kathy, in Poland, then moved to Leeds where she continued her gardening passion. Hazel’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren were very special to her and she enjoyed many photos she had and sharing them with her friends. Recently she became a member of the Lewiston Senior Citizens, making new friends and playing cards. She became an avid texter and spent many hours playing online cribbage and working NASCAR Fantasy Racing, which she was very good at. Hazel’s many pets throughout life were very special to her. She always carried photos with her to show to anyone she met.

Hazel is survived by her son, James and his wife, Kathryn, of Leeds; two grandchildren, Tami and husband, James Hall, of Gorham, and Amanda of Florida; two very special great-grandchildren, Kayden and Lucas of Gorham; her two sisters, Madelyn Pulsifer of Poland and Myrtle Field of Florida; a cousin, Beulah and husband, Lester Johnson, of Poland; many nieces, nephews and their families; and her dog, Buddy.
