RUMFORD — A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated for Joseph M. Palton, of Port Orange, Fla. and Roxbury Pond, conducted noon Monday, June 29, at Parish of the Holy Savior, St. Athanasius/St. John Church, with the Rev. Greg Dube as celebrant, and assisted by the Rev. Matthew Gregory. Altar assistant was Bernard Poirier. Organist was Mark Belanger.
Music selections included “Hosea,” “Because the Lord is my Shepherd,” “Eye Hath Not Seen,” and “On Eagle’s Wings.” The first reading from the Old Testament, from the Book of Wisdom, was pronounced by family friend Betty Fuller. The second reading from the New Testament, from the First Letter of Paul to the Thessalonians, was pronounced by family friend Luanne Taylor. The Prayers of the Faithful were read by his niece, Dr. Denise Caron. The Gifts were presented by family member Kathy Riley. Eulogy was presented by grandson, Joel Riley; followed by poems read by granddaughters, Erin Riley, and Kristen Riley, who also had great-granddaughter Eden Riley with her.
Committal services were conducted by the Rev. Matthew Gregory. Interment was at St. John Cemetery, Rumford. Military honors were presented by the Maine Military Funeral Honors Program from Augusta. A reception followed the services at the Parish Hall of the church and served by St. Timothy Circle, Daughters of Isabella.
