ORONO – On Saturday, July 11 at 9 a.m. ecologist and Boardwalk founder Ron Davis will lead the Boardwalk’s first nature walk of the season, “A Bog is a Very Special Place”.
This walk will emphasize the factors leading to the formation of peat bogs, the nature of peat, why it accumulates only in certain places like bogs, and how plants cope with the difficulties of living in a bog. Many examples will be pointed out, and small samples of peat will be taken from deep under the boardwalk.
The walk will start at the beginning of the Boardwalk, which is located in the Rolland F. Perry (Bangor) City Forest. Space is limited to 12 participants and registration is required. To register for this walk, please e-mail kourtney.collum@maine.edu with your name and a telephone number where you can be reached in case of weather cancellation. Please put “Boardwalk nature walk” on the e-mail subject line.
