100 years ago, 1915
The big steam roller of the Lewiston public works department got stuck in the new work on Pine street, between Webster and Sabattus streets, Tuesday morning, and the services of four horses were needed to got it onto solid ground again.

50 years ago, 1965
An Auburn woman kicked her wallet off North Bridge Saturday and then asked the help of Auburn police to locate it. According to the first report to authorities, the woman, while walking across the bridge back to Auburn, dropped her wallet, and when she went to pick it up accidentally kicked it with her foot and the wallet went over the edge of the bridge and dropped into the water. Sgt. Frank Keene of Auburn police said the woman gave police little information on the contents of the wallet so it was not known if the wallet contained any amount of money. The river flow is low due to the holiday shutdown of mills.

25 years ago, 1990
Veteran drivers like Jamie Aube, Mike Rowe, Chuck Bown and Tommy Houston are thinking and talking about winning the Oxford 250 on Sunday. For 20-year-old Ricky Miller, a rookie driver on the Busch Grand National North Series, the focus is on just qualifying for the prestigious event. “Just qualifying for the 250 will be tough,” said the Claremont, N.H., resident. “There is what — 68 cars entered? That is a lot of good drivers and good cars. Our goal is to earn one of the starting spots for that race. That would make the 250 a successful race for us.”
