LEWISTON — Pamela LaBelle of Lewiston has been honored as one of 12 winners of the 2015 Next Step Maine Scholarship.
Awarded by the Maine Development Foundation, the scholarship recognizes “Employees of Promise” who are nominated by their employers. The goal of the fund is to support outstanding employees who are pursuing higher education while balancing their careers, supporting family members and juggling additional life responsibilities.
Some 24 years after earning her GED, LaBelle enrolled at Central Maine Community College in Auburn. An accounting major, she has earned president’s honors – the highest academic honors at the college – in four separate semesters. LaBelle lives in Lewiston and is employed as the treasury manager in the Treasurer’s Office for the City of Lewiston.
This year’s 12 scholarship recipients represent eleven Maine employers, seven counties and eleven Maine educational institutions. The scholarships presented were three $2,300 scholarships, three $1,500 scholarships, five $1,000 scholarships and one $500 scholarship.
