HOULTON, Maine — A private airplane made an emergency landing Saturday afternoon on the northbound lanes of Interstate 95 near the Canadian border after experiencing engine problems, according to Maine State Police.
No one was injured, but the interstate was reduced to one lane, Trooper Dennis Quint said in a press release.
The 1961 Cessna had engine problems after taking off from Houlton International Airport, he said. Police received a “mayday” call about 12:30 p.m. Saturday.
Pilot Craig Maynard, 56, of Dedham was trying to return to the airport but lost power and the engine stalled, Quinn said. He was forced to land at mile marker 304 on I-95. Rodney Maynard, 77, of Presque Isle and Courtney Maynard, 24, hometown unknown, were passengers in the plane.
Rodney Maynard and his son, Craig Maynard, co-own the plane, the trooper said. Craig Maynard is Courtney Maynard’s father.
The plane was not damaged but was towed to the airport with a police escort.
