NORWAY — The Oxford County Wellness Collaborative has been holding regular meetings called Healthy Community Gatherings across the county. They are a series of six group conversations designed to foster connection and belonging and reduce barriers to health and wellness in each community where they are held. It is a time for people to come together to talk about how to make Oxford County and their local community a vibrant healthy place to live, work and raise families.
Meals or snacks are offered by hosts, committed members of the group, and local businesses. The Collaborative offers help with transportation and childcare to help make it possible for people to attend.
Since September of 2014, Oxford County Wellness Collaborative has trained 46 people to host these gatherings. Fifty gatherings have been hosted in communities across Oxford county with more than 200 people attending a total of 400 times. All residents of Oxford County are encouraged to take part in any of the health and wellness efforts through the Collaborative or a local Healthy Community Gathering.
Healthy Community Gatherings taking place this summer are:
Norway: 11:45 a.m. Thursdays at the Alan Day Community Garden with lunch included.
Bethel: 5:30 p.m. second and fourth Tuesdays at Crescent Park Elementary School.
Gatherings have been held in South Paris, Rumford and Fryeburg, and all communities in Oxford County are encouraged to host a gathering. Free host training and support is provided for those who are interested in starting a group or just want to learn about the process.
