LEWISTON — The filmed story of a man who is changing gender will be presented at Lifetree Café at 6 p.m. Thursday, July 30.

The program, titled “When He Becomes She: A Transgender’s Journey,” features an exclusive filmed interview with a man named Bob, who says he knew at the age of four that he was really a girl in a boy’s body.

“I say that God doesn’t make mistakes. I wasn’t a mistake,” the Bob says. “When I was a little boy who wanted to be a little girl and to wear dresses, that wasn’t because of my upbringing, I can guarantee you that. That is something engrained in me. That’s not a mistake of God.”

During the episode, the film will examine issues that often accompany transgenderism such as family dynamics, workplace complications and spiritual implications.

Lifetree Café national director Craig Cable explained this Lifetree session provides a safe place to discuss a topic that is becoming more and more relevant in today’s society, especially in light of Caitlyn Jenner’s recent revelations.

“This issue-transgenderism-raises all sorts of questions for people. Increasingly, our schools, workplaces, and faith communities are looking for answers. This Lifetree program provides some insight.”

Admission to the 60-minute event is free. Snacks and beverages are available. Lifetree Café is located at 1919 Lisbon Road.

Lifetree Café is a place where people gather for conversation on life and faith in a casual coffeehouse-type setting.
