PARIS — The Oxford Hills Middle School sustained about $2,000 in damage when an unidentified driver drove his truck in “doughnuts” around the north campus playing field on July 11.

The same man was involved in a road rage incident in Oxford later that day.

The playing field sustained damage to a large section, with tire tracks in at least three different locations.

School officials are awaiting quotes from two contractors before the field can be repaired, Facilities Director Nelson Baillargeon said Monday.

Baillargeon said the work to repair the field should not take more than several days, but the grass will have to be reseeded and allowed to grow before players can get back on it.

The district attorney’s office is seeking charges against the unidentified driver through a grand jury for aggravated criminal mischief and aggravated reckless conduct, said Lt. Jeffrey Lange on Monday.

Lange said Monday the man’s name will be released once he is formally charged.

The motive for the vandalism is unknown, but after the fields were damaged the incident escalated when the driver apparently continued south on Route 26 and reportedly nearly ran down a woman near Dunkin’ Donuts around 9 p.m.

The woman’s husband, Shane Poland of West Paris, was charged with assault and failure to submit to arrest after a scuffle with a Paris police officer who tried to restrain him after Poland allegedly threw a bat at the unidentified man’s truck.

Lange said the investigation into the road rage incident is ongoing.
