FARMINGTON — The North Franklin Little League team won the ELKS World Series held recently at the Joe “Toot” Memorial Ballfield in West Farmington.

Farmington Elks Lodge 2430 sponsored the weekend event, held July 11 and 12, for area teams consisting of players 12  years old and under, Les Brown, exalted ruler, said.

The North Franklin team which includes players from Strong, Phillips and Rangeley, won the series in a seventh game, 5 to 2, against a Western Mountains team from the Rumford Area.

The North Franklin team won a Farmington Area Cal Ripken Little League tournament held by the lodge in June at the Marvel Street ball field.

For the World Series,  Fairfield, Farmington, North Franklin and Western Mountain teams competed.

In the first game, Farmington beat Fairfield, 8, 3. For game two, North Franklin won over Western Mountain 8, 6.

Western Mountain came back to win over Farmington, 11 to 1, in game three and North Franklin beat Fairfield, 14 to 1, in game four.

Game five found North Franklin a winner again  in a game with Farmington with a score of 11 to 1. The Western Mountain team then beat Farmington in game 6 by a score of 7 to 6.

North Franklin then went on to triumph in game seven over Western Mountains, he said.

Along with the tournament, the Elks offer parking and a snack shack with all proceeds going towards maintenance of the ball field, support of area youth activities and scholarships to area students.

Other youth activities supported by the Elks include junior bowling, a hoop shoot, soccer shoot, football and baseball, a Harris House Christmas party and a children’s Christmas party.
