Bob Kent, of Mt.Vernon, dropped in his first hole in one on the 13th hole using a 3 Hybrid. Kent was playing with Brad Pattershall, Moe Morin and Aaron Burke.

Paul Dionne, of Winthrop, had his first hole in one on the 15th hole using a 3 Hybrid. Playing with Dionne were Bert Cote, Mike Adkins and Mike Lahey.

Veterans committee plans on golf tourney

The Western Maine Veterans’ Advisory Committee (WMVAC) continues to prepare for the 5th annual golf tournament to be held on Saturday, Aug. 22 at Fairlawn Golf Course in Poland. The golf tournament is sponsored by WMVAC to raise funds for the activities program at the Maine Veterans’ Home in South Paris.

During the tournament, a winning ticket will be drawn to receive a brand new John Deere riding mower. Tickets are on sale at the Maine Veterans’ Home at 477 High Steet in South Paris. Tickets are $5 each or 6 for $25. Tickets may be purchased through the mail by sending a check to Joe Cooney, chairman, 477 High Street, South Paris, Maine 04281. There will only be 800 tickets sold.

Sexual Assault Prevention softball game

The Sexual Assault Prevention and Response Services will host the ninth annual Police vs. Firefighters slow pitch softball game in Paris.

Enjoy a summer afternoon watching a game  between the police and firefighters. Game day is Sunday, Aug. 2 at 4 p.m. at Gouin Field, Alpine Street, South Paris. A rain date is set for Aug. 9. The game kicks off with a Home Run Derby at 3:30 p.m.

Refreshments will be sold at the Snack Shack.

Between each inning there will be prize drawings for the Grand Slam Raffle and fun kid activities. The benefit softball game tickets are $3 and for children under 12 is free. Tickets for the game and raffle tickets are available at Norway Town Office, Oxford Police/Fire Station, Paris Police Department and the SAPARS office at 1 East Main Street in South Paris (same parking lot as Ocean Breeze Tanning Salon, across from Market Square Health Center).

Funds raised will be used to continue SAPARS’s Personal Safety Programs to kindergarten through high school students in schools throughout Oxford County. For more information about the game or SAPARS’s services, please call 743-9777, or check out their website www.sapars.org.
