NORWAY — Frost Farm Gallery will hold a First Friday reception, meet and greet the artist on Friday, Aug. 7, from 5 to 8 p.m. The show, titled “Within and Without: Patterns of Light and Shadow,” will feature works by Sandra Pealer.
Pealer is a painter who delights in the medium of watercolor . She has painted from home studios in Maine, Vermont, New York and West Virginia for over 30 years. She employs a style that is a dance between fluidity and exactness, and loves the way that watercolor depicts light, shadow and mystery.
Currently she is exploring the interplay between interior and exterior subject matter, both symbolically and figuratively. “As I paint subject matter, be it an indoor still life, or a scene of the outdoors painted ‘en plein air,’ I am constantly reminded of the connection between my interior life and my choice of what to paint. This would not have been obvious to me as a younger person, but with time I have come to be more aware of what drives me to paint certain subjects,” Pealer said.
Pealer has moved to different states as her husband, Jud, has relocated with his job with the Episcopal Church, and she has had the privilege of being involved in many communities, and meeting many different people because of these moves. Relocating has provided both new material for artistic growth, and at the same time, great challenges. Sustained membership in watercolor societies has provided continuity and depth, as has entering national competitions while still participating in local organizations.
Pealer has earned signature status in the Philadelphia Watercolor Society, the Vermont Watercolor Society, the West Virginia Watercolor Society, and the North East Watercolor Society. She is also a sustaining member of the American Watercolor Society.
Pealer’s paintings are in private and public collections throughout the U.S. and Canada, and have won many awards
Gallery-goers will also enjoy live improv keyboard by Mike Maurice at the opening reception. The show is free and open to the public, and the exhibit and sale will continue at Frost Farm Gallery, located in the historic David W. Frost farm, 272 Pikes Hill in Norway, through Saturday, Aug.29.
