Poland Historical Society to meet

Republican City Committee to meet

LEWISTON — The Lewiston Republican City Committee will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 30, at 415 Lisbon St. Doors will open at 6:45 p.m.

All Lewiston Republicans are encouraged to attend. The committee will discuss bylaws revisions and local welfare reform efforts.

Grange to plan year’s programming

MINOT — Members of Androscoggin Pomona Grange 1 will attend the Minot Center Congregational Church on Sunday, Aug. 2, for the Annual Go to Church Sunday. Members will meet at the church at 8:45 a.m. prior to the 9 a.m. service.

Following the service members will hold the annual planning meeting for 2016 programming. All Pomona members are encouraged to attend to let their opinions known.

Fifty years of chicken dinners in Gray

GRAY — It’s been 50 years, and the Gray Fire Rescue will still holding its annual chicken barbecue the first Saturday in August.

Members are warming up the grills and gathering the fixings for their fundraiser. The chicken dinners can be picked up at the Gray Public Safety building (also called Central Station) on Shaker Road starting at noon and ending when sold out on Saturday, Aug 1.

Dinners will include coleslaw, chips, rolls with butter and a half-chicken.  The department members plan on preparing about 350 dinners. The meals are often sold out by mid-afternoon.

Association members will start cooking the half-chickens about 8 a.m. on large barbecues specially made from 250-gallon metal barrels.  Clamping the chickens between made-to-order grills, the members work in two-man teams to flip the grills and apply the barbecue sauce.

Lewiston Seniors events on tap

LEWISTON — Lewiston Seniors will hold Fun Day from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 6, at Lost Valley. Call to reserve a space for $15 at 513-3005. $15.00

Members are reminded of the Great Falls Balloon Festival on Aug. 21 to 23 and the Art Walk on Lisbon Street on Friday, Aug. 28.

Lunch is served at 11:30 a.m. every Tuesday and Thursday at Meadowview Hall. Cost is $3.

Two day trips still have space: Wednesday, Sept. 23, by bus to the Hobo Train in New Hampshire and Sunday, Nov. 29, Indian Head Resort in New Hampshire.
