DIXFIELD — Fred M. Weld, 95, Boston Post Cane holder of Dixfield, passed peacefully in the comfort of his own home, surrounded by family in the early morning hours of Wednesday July 29.
A Dixfield native, he was the son of Frank and Sue (Spaulding) Weld. He was a 1938 graduate of Dixfield High School.
He married his soulmate, Irene Perry, on March 13, 1942, and they lived in Dixfield all of their lives. He was a World War II veteran, having served with the U.S. Army in the European Theater, including the Battle of the Bulge and the invasion of Normandy. He was a life member of the VFW.
For 45 years, he was the parts manager at Morrison Motors in Mexico.
Fred loved the outdoors: hunting, fishing and cruising T3R4 with his best buddies, Ed Wright and Jim Fuller. He also enjoyed spending time at the family camp on Webb Lake with his family and closest friends.
He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Irene of Dixfield; their son, Bruce Weld and his wife, Sheila, of Dixfield; a granddaughter, Jennifer Weld of Pompano Beach, Fla.; and a sister, Evelyn Ionta and her husband, Bitsy, of DIxfield.
He was predeceased by a sister, Hazel Saunders.
