LISBON — Springworks Farm celebrated the opening of their new 6,000-square-foot greenhouse and farm stand on June 10, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at their 347 Lisbon St. location. Springworks Farm founder and president Trevor Kenkel welcomed Androscoggin Chamber President Matt Leonard, along with local municipal and state officials. The ceremony concluded with a tour of the facility and refreshments served at the farm stand.

Located on 160-acres of farm land, Springworks Farm is an aquaponics greenhouse for the purpose of growing fresh lettuce and herbs year-round. Aquaponics is an efficient and sustainable form of agriculture where plants and fish work together for their mutual benefit.

Springworks Farm has also partnered with local farmers to give them a convenient sales outlet at the farm retail stand along Route 196. The farm stand is open Monday through Sunday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Kenkel, 20, who will return to Bowdoin as a sophomore this fall, will continue to operate the farm along with his employees to provide fresh organic products to the local restaurants and supermarkets year-round.
