AUBURN — The YMCA of Auburn-Lewiston is seeking community nominations for its inaugural Hall of Fame celebration.
“The YMCA was founded in the Auburn area in 1868 and has been a mainstay at its current location on Turner Street since 1922,” states CEO Steven Wallace. “We are creating the YMCA Hall of Fame to recognize the many men and women whose ‘extraordinary and tangible’ contributions have helped the YMCA accomplish its community mission over the past 147 years.”
Nominees may be current or former staff, volunteers, YMCA members, board members, ambassadors, advocates or community partners. Anyone may submit a nomination, to include nominations by friends or relatives of deceased candidates.
The inaugural selection committee will be chaired by Beth Shea, former president of the YMCA Board of Directors and Auburn resident. She will lead a diverse committee to review nominations and ultimately recommend a potential honoree slate to the Y’s current board for approval.
Inductees will be announced in October, and a formal celebration will take place at the Y’s annual meeting at Martindale Country Club in December.
To submit an online nomination, go to: www.alymca.org. To submit a paper nomination, visit the YMCA at 62 Turner St., Auburn. For more information about the YMCA, call 207-795-4095.
