I have come to recognize the LifeFlight helicopters, by sight and by sound, as they regularly fly over my home during all hours of the day and night.

I live on a high hill which lies midway between the Lewiston’s Central Maine Medical Center helipad and the junction of Interstates 95 and 295 in Gardiner, and I suppose the pilots find my mountain retreat a fine visual reference point when they have to respond to any given emergency in that general direction.

When I am awakened in the middle of the night, I am always thankful to the pilots, aircrew and mechanics who operate that wonderful lifesaving service.

I will leave a light on for you.
