Maine Gladiator Midget Tryouts

The Maine Gladiator Tier IV Midget tryouts will be held on Aug. 5, at the Norway Savings Bank Arena in Auburn from 7:10 p.m. to 8:10 p.m. Midget age participants are invited to attend.

Players born from Jan. 1, 1997 through Dec. 31, 2000 are midget age. The Gladiators hope to make two Tier IV teams again this year, depending on the number of players who try out.

Our Midget season runs from the end of August to mid November. Assessment will be between $400 and $450, depending on when payment is made. All players trying out must be USA Hockey registered and must show proof before going on the ice. To register with USA Hockey go to USAHockey.com. Print out confirmation number and bring it with you. All players trying out must show proof of age.

Please bring a copy of your birth certificate with you to tryouts. All players trying out will be assessed a non-refundable $15 fee. Please bring assessment with you to tryouts. All players trying out need to fill out a Midget Application. Find player applications by going to the Maine Gladiator website at www.mainegladiators.com . Central Maine Dart League captains meeting

The Central Maine Dart Leauge will hold a captains meeting at the Boys and Girls Club on Second Street in Auburn on Tuesday, Aug. 18 from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Water and Pepsi will be provided by the league. All captains will be expected to fill out their roster and pay $5 for each player on the roster.

Rangeley Lakes Golf Classic

The Rangeley Lakes Chamber of Commerce is excited to announce the  Rangeley Lakes Chamber of Commerce Golf Classic. The event will be held on Aug. 19, with a 1 p.m. shotgun start (rain date is Aug. 21, 9 a.m. shotgun start) at Mingo Springs Golf Course.

Maine baseball hall to hold golf tourneys

The Maine Basketball Hall of Fame will host two golf tournaments. The first tournament is the fifth annual Aroostook County Golf Scramble on Saturday, Aug. 1 at the Aroostook Valley Country Club in Fort Fairfield. Registration is from 10 a.m. t0 10:45 a.m. and an 11 a.m. shotgun start follows. There will be four people per team and the field is limited to the first 40 paid teams. Entry fee is $65 per person and includes a steak or chicken barbeque. Interested golfers can contact Larry Gardner at (207) 551-5001.

The second annual Maine Basketball Hall of Fame Golf Scramble will be held at the Falmouth Country Club on Monday, Aug. 10. Tee time is 8 a.m. The cost for iIndividual teams is  $125 per team. Interested golfers can contact Tom Maines at 207-504-6182 for more information.

Debevoise Memorial Tennis Tournament

The 35th annual Pete Debevoise Memorial Tennis Tournament will be held on the weekend of Aug. 8 and 9 at the South Portland High School tennis courts.

Honoring the legendary coach at South Portland, named National Interscholastic Coach of the Year in 1976, the Debevoise is a fund raiser for the scholarship fund established in his honor. Competition will be held in men’s open singles and doubles, women’s open singles, and in open mixed doubles. The event is sanctioned as an outdoor major tournament by the Maine Tennis Association.

Youth football sign-ups

Sign-ups for Area Youth Football for grades 2 through 8 will be held Aug. 5 and 6 at the Mexico Rec Center from 5 to 7 p.m. Cost will be $35 for players returning to the same team and middle school players.

New players and players moving to a new team will be charged and an additional $35 for a jersey. Players in grades 2 through 6 need to attend to receive equipment. Middle players will receive equipment at a later date.
