SABATTUS — Maine Commissioner of Labor Jeanne Paquette announces that the Sabattus Sanitary District has earned the Safety and Health Award for Public Employers Award in recognition of its rigorous safety achievement program.

A certificate and banner will be presented by the Maine Department of Labor at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 5,  at the Sabattus Sanitary District Office, 22 Lisbon Road, Sabattus.

SHAPE status keeps workers on the job by reducing workplace injuries, which, in turn, decreases workers’ compensation claims and costs. In addition to keeping people healthy, this program can save governments and taxpayers thousands of dollars a year.

There are 54 SHAPE-certified work sites in Maine.
