Three people died in separate crashes in Buckfield, Durham and New Sharon on Sunday.

In Buckfield, Nichole A. Byron of Hartford was driving a PT Cruiser and was killed when her car collided with a tractor-trailer truck on Route 117 in Buckfield, near the Turner line. The crash was reported to authorities at 3:30 p.m.

She was 30 years old.

Her identity was withheld until next of kin were notified, according to Oxford County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Timothy Ontengco, the on-scene supervisor. Her name was released at 11:30 a.m. Monday in a written statement by Oxford County Sheriff Wayne Gallant.

Kenneth Jamison, 48, of South Paris was driving the tractor-trailer and was taken to a Lewiston hospital, where he was evaluated. There were no other passengers in either vehicle and no one else was injured.

Oxford County Sheriff’s Office and Maine State Police responded and were still investigating the fatal crash. The road remained closed Sunday night while the incident was being reconstructed and will remain closed while the crash is under investigation. 

Also responding to the scene were Buckfield and Turner fire departments, Buckfield Rescue and Turner Rescue.

In New Sharon, Jonathan Billings, 24, of Windham was killed in what appeared to be a one-vehicle, one-person motorcycle crash on Route 27 on Sunday, about two miles south of the Farmington line. 

According to a written statement from Steve McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety, Billings’ speeding motorcycle went off Route 27 and ended up in a field. He was killing after hitting a fence post.

Billings was not wearing a helmet.

Responders were called to the scene about 6 p.m., but the time of the crash was not then known, according to Franklin County dispatcher Tyler Richards. The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office initially investigated before Maine State Police took over. Maine State Police Trooper Jed Malcore is handling the investigation, Richards said.

Farmington Police and New Sharon firefighters also assisted at the scene. 

In Durham, a woman driving a motorcycle also died in a crash.

According to Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy William Gagne, Beth L. Woodmancy, 52, of Brunswick drove the motorcycle that crashed at 7:10 p.m. on Pinkham Brook Road (Route 125) near the intersection of Meadow Road. She failed to negotiate a turn and struck a utility pole, Gagne said.

She was not wearing a helmet and died instantly at the scene. 

Durham Fire and Rescue assisted at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation, Gagne said. Investigators believe there may have been witnesses to the crash and are asking that anyone with information contact Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Rielly Bryant, who is leading the effort, at (207) 753-2599.
