AUBURN — A Texas man was indicted Tuesday on 21 charges stemming from a vehicle stop and ensuing chase that revealed stolen property.

Christopher Harvey, 39, of Lufkin, Texas, and 107 Strawberry Ave., Lewiston, was arrested in June after police spotted him driving a stolen vehicle on Strawberry Avenue early in the morning.

A Lewiston police officer attempted to stop the vehicle, which had driven a short distance down Tall Pines Drive. Harvey jumped from the moving vehicle and fled on foot into nearby woods, police said.

Several police officers searched the area for Harvey and secured the stolen vehicle. Police found several items in the vehicle that were reported stolen from 730 Main St. earlier that month.

Police caught up with Harvey at the River Valley Village apartments, where he had been staying with a friend.

An Androscoggin County grand jury indicted Harvey on three counts of burglary, five counts of theft, five counts of criminal mischief, three counts of unauthorized use of property, forgery, driving to endanger and refusing to submit to arrest.

Four of the charges against Harvey are Class C felonies, each one punishable by up to five years in prison.

Among the items he is accused of stealing are: a checkbook, electronics, business apparel, money, ice cream and a bottle of aspirin.

He is charged with breaking into Yvon’s Car Wash, Dairy Treat and Varsity Lettering Design, all in Lewiston.

He has been held at Androscoggin County Jail.
