I write to thank the people of Lewiston for sending Rep. Heidi Brooks to Augusta. Not only has she been a great addition to the Legislature, she has been invaluable on the Insurance and Financial Services Committee, on which I serve as the House chairman.
The work that we do in the Insurance Committee requires attention to detail, the ability to comprehend complex state and federal regulations and to remember that, in all of this, we are advocates for the people of Maine.
Rep. Brooks has all of those skills and has served with distinction.
Her legislation to correct the inequity in prescription drug pricing for small, local pharmacies was one of the only bills that we chose to continue working on throughout the off-season and will debate next year. It is a complicated issue and one that results in unfair pricing for small pharmacies, such as Bedard’s in Lewiston, and its customers.
Rep. Brooks identified the issue, brought in local experts to testify and suggested solutions. We will work to pass the bill next year and we thank Rep. Brooks for bringing it forward.
Rep. Henry Beck, Waterville
