PHILLIPS — The annual Old Home Days starts Friday, Aug. 14, with 10 days of events.

The festival opens with a children’s art show at the Phillips Public Library.

On Saturday, Aug. 15, amateur photographers will bring their entries to Phillips Hardware on Main Street to display their work throughout the next week.

From noon until 6 p.m., the Country Delight Restaurant in Avon will host a lobster and steak feed.

The library studio will host the music of Freddy and Francine at 7 p.m.

On Sunday, Aug. 16, a volleyball tournament will be held at noon at North Franklin Park.

From 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 18, the Country Delight Restaurant will host the popular Cruise-In Night, featuring dozens of vintage vehicles and music into the evening.

The eighth-graders’ talent show at the Phillips Elementary School will give the youngsters a chance to raise money for their year-end school trip.

On Wednesday, Aug. 19, the American Legion Post on Depot Street will host the 6:30 p.m. doubles cribbage tournament.

On Thursday, Aug. 20, the Phillips Public Library will open its doors for a thrift shop and book sale throughout the day, and at 4 p.m., the North Franklin Sportsmen’s Club will start serving its southern-style barbecue spare ribs with all the fixings until 6 p.m.

Friday, Aug. 21, is packed with more fun, starting at 9 a.m. with giant yard sale at 86 Main St.

The Community of Christian Women welcome everyone to a morning social gathering at the Phillips Community Church, and the Historical Society will host a daylong open house.

There will be a display of handmade quilts at the Congregational Church. Organizations and nonprofit groups will offer activities, bake sales and crafts throughout the day.

Train ride enthusiasts can go to the Narrow Gauge Railroad Station at Dill Woods for rides from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and again at 8:30 p.m. The Sandy River Flying Club and Morgan Aviation will take the more adventurous visitors on afternoon flights over the western mountains.

The Agricultural Building at the entrance of North Franklin Park will host an open house, with antique vehicles on display. The chicken barbecue and bean-hole bean supper will be served at the Phillips Community House on Main Street, with plenty of picnic table seating and a great spots to watch the Disney-themed parade down Main Street.

The American Legion Hall will host bingo and there will be a 7:30 p.m. street dance featuring the Stay Tuned band.

Saturday, Aug. 22, at 6 a.m. is a breakfast at the Sandy River Flying Club at Lindbergh Airport on Route 4. Plane rides will be offered from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Among the many other activities are a Cancer Society walk, a lumbering competition, train rides, a road race, a bike race, frog jumping contest, a guided tour on the Fly Rod Crosby Trail and an evening of music and dancing at the Phillips Area Community Center.

On Sunday, Aug. 23, is a chicken shoot contest at the North Franklin Park and a children’s parade down Main Street. Train rides will start at the Dill Woods, running hourly from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Northwoods Pulling Track will host truck pull competitions to raise money for local charities, and the Sportsmen’s Club will have a horseshoe tournament. For those looking for more low-key competition, a luck race will be held with launch from the downtown bridge at 1 p.m.
