1919 – 2015
LEWISTON — Rosaire M. Bisson, 96, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Aug. 13, at Montello Manor.
He was born in Garthby, Quebec, Canada, the son of Jeanne and Aime Bisson. As a young man, he started as a mechanic apprentice in Nashua, N.H., and later ran a repair shop in Mexico. After being drafted into the U.S. Army, he was trained at the Aberdeen Proving Ground to be a technical instructor at the Ordnance School. There, he worked on reverse engineering of the first German Tiger tank that was captured in Germany in World War II. He was later transferred to the Research Center and was sent to be an instructor at a school in Porto Alegre, Brazil.
Rosaire was a licensed boiler engineer and electrician for many years and also worked as a plant engineer at Andover Wood Products and at Sprague & Carlton in Keene, N.H. He and his wife later owned and operated Pyrotech Engineering and installed numerous cogeneration projects.
Rosaire enjoyed reading his Bible and many technical engineering manuals.
He and his wife lived in South Rumford for more than 50 years. For many years, they wintered in Panama City, Fla.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Lola Augustine Bisson; two children, David Bisson and his wife, Marcy, of Raymond, and Briana Knoop and her husband, Werner, of University Park, Fla.; five grandchildren, Daniel Bisson and wife, Lori, Jason Bisson and wife, Sara, Tracy Costa and husband, Adam, Damian Knoop and wife, Irene, and Dustin Knoop and wife, Laura; nine great-grandchildren, Jack, Braeden, Elise, Cole, Ellie, Reid, Greta, Ellie Grace and Edie; and three sisters, Irene Dorr of Wallingford, Conn., Lucianne Royce of Hinsdale, N.H., and Simonne Rafuse and husband, Richard, of Rumford.
He was predeceased by his sister, Aura Brown.
The family would like to thank the Montello Manor Health Care Facility in Lewiston for the wonderful care they provided to Rosaire.
