Jewette announces
13th concert season

AUGUSTA — The University of Maine at Augusta College of Arts and Sciences and UMA Senior College announce the 2015-2016 concert schedule for the 13th season of “Concerts at Jewett” held at Jewett Hall Auditorium. Tickets are $10, students $5, and children 12 and under free. Tickets are available at Pat’s Pizza of Augusta, and at the door.

The series, sponsored by local businesses and private contributions, features talented Maine performers representing a variety of musical forms. Profits will be used to subsidize present and future lectures and concerts to benefit the community.

All concerts are at 2 p.m.

Sunday, Oct. 18  – Fiddle-icious. An open community-based orchestra of over 140 members preserves the cultural heritage of Maine’s traditional fiddle music, led by legendary Don Roy. At Cony High School, 60 Pierce Drive, Augusta.

Sunday, Nov.  8,  – The Easy Happy Show with Marcia Gallagher and Katie Daggett. Marcia’s jazz and Katie’s folk complement each other, and will leave you tapping your toes and smiling.

Sunday, Dec. 20 – A Christmas Concert with Down East Brass and Jay Zoller, organist, playing South Parish’s historic 1866 E.&G.G. Hook Organ. At South Parish Congregational Church, 9 Church St., Augusta.

Sunday, Jan. 24, 2016  – (no snow date). The Gawler Family with Jessie and Greg Boardman, well known in central Maine for their Irish, Celtic, and Quebecois repertoire. Advance ticket purchase recommended.

Sunday, Feb. 7  – (snow date Feb. 28). George Lopez, classical pianist. Pre-concert talk at 1 p.m. Hailed by LA Times for his “… musical perspective, continuity, and kaleidoscopic colors.”

Sunday, March 13 – (snow date Mar. 20). Dave Rowe and The Squid Jiggers. Dave Rowe will perform his easy listening originals, as well as join Troy Bennett in a duo. The pair sing and play guitar, bass, bodhran and tin whistles.

Sunday, April 17 – DaPonte String Quartet. Pre-concert talk at 1 p.m. Dino Liva (violin), Lydia Forbes (violin), Myles Jordan (cello), and Kirsten Monke (viola) perform classical music at its best.

Sunday, May 15 – Erica Brown and The Bluegrass Connection. Traditional Bluegrass and French Canadian music. “For the music of her heritage and her age, there’s no one better” — Don Roy.

All concerts, except for Oct. 18 and Dec. 20, are at UMA Jewett Auditorium. Tickets are $10, students $5, 12 & under free.
