100 years ago, 1915
Employees in the Darling Automobile Co. salesrooms in Auburn were the guests of V. S Darling, head of the firm, at “Auto Rest,” his country estate at Wales, Wednesday afternoon They remained there for supper. The program for the day included croquet, ball playing and rifle shooting. This will initiate an annual outing for this corps of workers.

50 years ago, 1965
More than 1,000 energetic youngsters last night packed the Lewiston City Hall auditorium to witness a special “Battle of the Bands” program staged as part of the current Lewiston Summer Festival bring sponsored by the Lewiston Jaycees. A total of 12 area rock ‘n roll bands participated in the program. Winners In the Class “A” (formed for more than a year) competition were The Impacts, first; The Excells, second; and The Temptations, third. Also entered were the Scavengers. In Class “B” (formed for less than a year) The Stingrays, The Arguments and The Cobras were chosen as the top three. Also competing in the “B” group were The Innkeepers, The Vibrations, Gorgo and his Cavemen, The Phantoms, and The Travelers.

25 years ago, 1990
The Ipswich Street water tank, a 370,000-gallon reservoir in New Auburn, is receiving a new coat of paint this week. Water District Superintendent Normand Lamie said the entire tank was drained so that the inside could be scraped and painted in addition to the exterior. The tank, he said, was “touched up” about 12 years ago but has not had a complete paint job for 20 years.
