SABATTUS — Police said a Poland woman was charged after her car was found partially submerged in Sabattus Creek early Friday morning.
Police issued a summons to Lauren Stockwell, 21, after finding a tan 1999 Dodge Intrepid registered to her in the creek.
Police said the car had been westbound at 3 a.m. on Sabattus Road when it crossed the centerline, struck a guardrail and plunged into the waterway. It was partially submerged and the driver had left the scene, they said.
Stockwell was charged with failure to report a motor vehicle accident by quickest means possible, Police Chief Anthony Ward said.
The Maine Department of Environmental Protection was at the scene Friday to help stop the release of fluids from the car into the creek, Ward said.
