LEWISTON — With just over a week left to file nomination papers for city office, at least half of the positions have no official, qualified candidates, according to City Clerk Kathy Montejo.

In a statement, Montejo said there are 16 municipal positions up for election this fall: mayor, seven councilors and eight School Committee members.

The city clerk’s office has verified nomination papers for 13 candidates to run for various positions.

As of the close of business Tuesday, no one had submitted completed nomination papers for Wards 3 and 6 on the City Council. For the School Committee, there are no official candidates for Wards 1, 2, 3, 5, 6 or 7. Several people have taken out nomination papers for the seats, but few have been submitted for filing.

The deadline is 4:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 4.

The verified candidates as of Tuesday are:
