WILTON — Police said a local woman was injured Monday morning when the car she was driving and a Maine Department of Transportation pickup truck collided in the construction area at Route 156/Depot Street and Routes 2 and 4.

Joan Farrington, 80, had been waved on by a flagger to pass through the intersection from Depot Street to the opposite side of the street, Wilton Police Department secretary Gale McDonald said, reading from officer Derek Daley’s report.

A DOT truck driven by Chad Huggins, 28, of Waterville was traveling on Routes 2 and 4 and struck the center driver’s side of Farrington’s car, McDonald said.

The accident occurred at about 8:14 a.m. near Steve’s Market, Gould’s Service Station and Dutch Treat Ice Cream.

Farrington complained of neck pain and appeared to have some glass in her left arm, Daley said. She was taken by a NorthStar EMS ambulance to Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington, he said.

Both drivers were wearing seat belts. Daley said he found it odd that only the side air bag on Farrington’s 2000 Buick deployed. The front air bag did not, he said.

Farrington’s car and the 2010 GMC truck were towed from the scene. The DOT truck is owned by DAFS Central Fleet Management in Augusta, McDonald said.

Wilton Police Chief Heidi Wilcox and Franklin County Deputy Colt Bernhardt assisted Daley at the scene.

The accident remains under investigation.
