Preschool story time at Rumford Library
RUMFORD — The weekly story times at the Rumford Public Library will resume at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 9. Area youngsters ages 2-5 are invited to attend the preschool story times. Children will enjoy stories, songs and activities, as well as make a take-home craft and have a healthy snack.
This is an excellent opportunity for parents to have their children meet and interact with other preschoolers. Story times will not be held during school vacations or in the event of school cancellations.
Historical Society to meet
DIXFIELD — The Dixfield Historical Society will hold its first fall meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 10, in the Charter Meeting Room of the Dixfield Historical Society museum house, 59 Main St.
A business meeting will be held, followed by a short program from Charlotte Collins on old Dixfield Sheep Marks. The summer quilt raffle winner will also be drawn. The public and new members are invited.
Remembering 9/11 in Norway
NORWAY — Members of the American Legion, Amvets, VFW Auxiliaries and DUV will remember 9/11 from 8:55 to 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 11, across from the Norway Legion.
The public is invited to join them. Those wishing should wear red, white and blue and bring a flag to wave if possible.
Good Sheperd Food Mobile comes to Wilton
WILTON — The Good Shepherd Food Mobile will be at the Wilton Area Food Pantry, 600 Main St., from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 11. Anyone in need of food assistance is eligible and welcome to participate. Those who plan on visiting should bring their own containers (bags or boxes).
Smart Driver course set for Bridgton
BRIDGTON — The Bridgton Community Center, 15 Depot St., will host the AARP Smart Driver course from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 19. Advance registration no later than Sept. 11 is requested, as class size is limited.
This four-hour refresher course is for experienced drivers 50 years and older. Topics include safe driving strategies, defensive driving techniques, new traffic laws and rules of the road. There are no written tests. The class helps drivers adjust to age-related changes in vision, hearing and reaction time.
Drivers in Maine 55 years of age and older are entitled to discounts on their insurance premiums for three years after taking or retaking the course.
The registration fee is $15 for AARP members and $20 for others. To register, call the BCC at 207-647-3116.

OH Chapter AARP meeting
PARIS — The Oxford Hills Chapter of AARP will meet at noon Monday, Sept. 14, at the First Congregational Church, East Main Street, South Paris. Lunch will be served at noon, including salads and hot chicken salad. Cost is $7 and reservations are required by calling Ruth at 744-9069 by Friday, Sept. 11.
The business meeting will begin at 12:45 p.m.. Members should bring something for the local food pantry as well as something for a book/puzzle swap.
The program will be presented by former legislator Sawin Millett.
Mt. Blue to host tailgate party
FARMINGTON — The 19th Annual Mt. Blue Football Tailgate Party will be held before the Brewer football game between 4:30 and 6:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 11, at the Mt. Blue campus.
The menu includes a half-chicken meal for $6.50, a hamburger meal for $5 or a hot dog meal for $5.
All meals include cole slaw, chips, brownie and a drink.

Crafters needed for fair
LIVERMORE — The Livermore Community Building is looking for crafters to sell items at its fair from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, at 25 Church St.
Proceeds from the table sales will go directly toward the restoration, maintenance and upkeep of the Community Building.
