1926 – 2015

AUBURN — Ruth V. Martin, 89, went to be with the Lord peacefully on Wednesday morning, Sept. 2, at Clover Health Care.

She was born on March 9, 1926, in Concord, N.H., the daughter of Ruth L. and Benjamin F. Martin. She moved to Brooklyn, N.Y. Ruth was a member of the Sixth Avenue Baptist Church and graduated from Girls Commercial HS in Cooper Union, NYC and Providence Barrington Bible College in R.I. She was a member of the East Auburn Baptist Church, where she partook in many activities, including the Hug Team.

Ruth was an artist and did many projects while she was a member there. Ruth was a missionary to West Pakistan for 14 years as an artist/illustrator with the Ceylon and India General Mission, which is now named Interserve USA, in Upper Darby, Pa. Ruth was thankful for her gift of art, the outdoors, music and especially doing the Lord’s work. She wrote a book with Donna Jean-Lynn Helwig titled, “So, What’s the Next Step: Walking with God.”

Ruth was a loving sister to her predeceased siblings, Ben, Betty, John, Donald, Gladys, Stanley and Marion. She will be missed by sister, Lovenia M. and husband, N.Gordon Chafee, of West Winfield, N.Y.; a brother, Robert J. Martin and his wife, Susan A., of Richfield Springs, N.Y.; as well as many nieces, nephews, great- and great-great-nieces and -nephews; and two cousins. She also will be missed by many loving friends around the world, especially Flora Williams and so many others in the Auburn area, who are too numerous to mention.

We wish to thank Dr. Hattan, the nurses and people of Clover Health Care, Beacon Hospice and the many friends that sent cards and went to visit her, especially the Rev. Roger Cousineau, of East Auburn Baptist Church.

Condolences may be shared with the family at www.thefortingroupauburn.com.
