JAY — Police are seeking the person who threw a rock through the rose stained-glass window in the back of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church.

Cpl. Jeffrey Fournier said the Rev. Joseph Daniels reported the vandalism at about 2 p.m. Saturday.

The large round window has multiple smaller windows that are about 16 to 18 inches, he said. The design resembles a flower with petals. The rock broke a corner of one of the smaller windows, he said.

Fournier is waiting for an damage estimate.

A representative from the church said the design has always been called “the rose stained glass.” It is believed to have been installed in 1949 when the church was completed, replacing one that burned.

Anyone with information on the vandalism is asked to call the Jay Police Department at 207-897-6766.

The incident remains under investigation, Fournier said.
