1927 – 2015

LEWISTON — Muriel S. Martin, 88, of 40 Hamel St., Lewiston, died Sunday, Sept. 6, at the d’Youville Pavilion in Lewiston. She passed after rehab, following surgery due to a fall, during which time she never lost her sense of humor and her loving heart. She remained grateful to those caring for her, and her warm heart reached out to many people, both in d’Youville and in the Lewiston community.

She was born in Lewiston on Feb. 11, 1927, the daughter of Leon and Blanche Garand Marois. Educated locally, she was a graduate of Lewiston High School, Class of 1945. She worked as a waitress in the family business, Marois Restaurant, where she was a fixture right up until the restaurant closed in 2003. When she wasn’t working at the restaurant, she enjoyed spending time with her sisters and playing cribbage with her friends at the Pastime Club. She was a member of the former St. Patrick’s Church, Prince of Peace Parish.

She is survived by three sons, Paul and wife, Linda, of Auburn, Dennis and wife, Stephanie, of Eugene, Ore., and Michael of Lewiston; a daughter, Judith and husband, Joseph, of Mechanic Falls; a sister, Antoinette Orestis of Auburn; 13 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren, with another on the way.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by two sisters, Theresa Rioux and Jeanne Ricker.
