100 years ago, 1915
A new steel bridge in being constructed by the L. A. & W. on the Brunswick and Bath line at the point where the road crosses the Sabatis river. They have started near the top of the hill, on the Lewiston side, and run an almost straight line to the other side. This has necessitated a fill of 600 feet. Across the river a trestle and steel girder bridge is being constructed. The steel section will be about 35 feet in length. It is this road’s plan to fill these trestles at either end, so that eventually the only bridge work which they will use over this river will be the steel span.

50 years ago, 1965
Ronaldo (Ray) Martin of Lewiston assumed control of the Dodge Clothing store today as proprietor of a business he has managed for the past 15 years. Martin, announcing the change of ownership, plans no personnel changes at the former New York chain store, plans to operate under the same discount plan and will, in the near future, add a boy’s department. In announcing the purchase of the store Martin expressed his confidence in the Lisbon Street area as a shopping district.

25 years ago, 1990
The cost-saving measure enacted by the City Council during this year’s budget season whereby non-essential city employees were scheduled to be given five unpaid holidays quickly went the way of the dinosaur. Reacting to numerous complaints, the four councilors at Monday’s City Council workshop agreed to abolish the measure and return to the regular schedule. The first furlough day was taken Aug. 31, and quickly succeeded in angering residents unable to register their cars or get their trash picked up. “The council obviously had to weigh the cost savings in light of the disruption of services,” said City Manager Steven Lewis.
